Notes When experienced events disrupt an individual's sense of meaning, the main goal is to regain the damaged meaning. Religion presents the belief in testing as a source of finding meaning to the events experienced. In the study, the role of test belief in making sense of negative life events is investigated. Martyr families, veterans and veterans' families were selected as the research group. The main aims of the study are to determine whether they use the belief of testing in their coping processes regarding the source and meaning of the traumas they have experienced, and to reveal the positive or negative effects of this belief on coping. The belief in testing is frequently cited in all three participant groups as a reason for the event experienced. In the families of martyrs, the idea that the loss comes from God and is an honorable test has a positive impact on coping. Veterans ask, "Why me?" The belief in testing, which is important in answering the question, is mostly reflected in emotional coping. According to veteran families, having their relatives become veterans and living with people who have experienced trauma is a test. The effect of belief in testing on coping is determined by individual dynamics such as perception of religiosity, personality, social environment and education.
