Notes The research aims to identify the subject of education in Transjordan in the Ottoman era during the period extending from 1516-1918 AD. The Transjordan region is the southern region of the Levant, and extends from the Yarmouk River in the north to the Tabuk region in the south. This period was characterized by the fact that the state neglected education, and left the opening and supervision of schools to the activity of the population themselves. Which led to a delay in education, and schools did not appear in eastern Jordan until the late nineteenth century AD. Ignorance prevailed, and education relied on the book, the role of which was limited to teaching reading and writing and simple principles of arithmetic, in addition to teaching the Holy Qur’an. At the end of the Ottoman era, schools appeared in major cities, and Jordan did not know higher studies, so the Rushdi schools were the highest levels of education in the country. Hence the importance of the study in highlighting the image of education, its development, and the educational patterns spread in the Transjordan region during the Ottoman era.
