A union is an organization whose goal is to protect workers’ rights and benefits. Unions differ among themselves in their efforts, structure, struggle, and defense of workers’ rights. The concept of unions appeared after the Industrial Revolution in the early nineteenth century to protect the common interests of the working classes. The name “union” was given in France, Italy, and Spain, then the word “workers union” was used instead. In Britain, the word “trade union” was given, and in Germany the word “gewerkschaft” was given. The name was changed in France, Italy, Spain, and Turkey to the term “worker and employer,” after which it became “worker’s union and employers’ union.” The problem of the research is to know the nature of trade union work, the stages of its development in Türkiye, its historical roots, and what are the internal and external factors that influenced it. The trade union movement in Turkey is one of the important professional institutions in Turkey and has a significant impact on large sectors of the Turkish people, in addition to its impact on the economic process. It has occupied successive Turkish governments since the founding of the Turkish Republic in 1923, when the trade union role was limited to the state’s supervision of its activity. The role of the movement developed after the first republican era and the stages that followed it into trade unions whose goal is to protect workers’ rights and benefits from reducing working hours and others. The issue of the trade union movement in Turkey is one of the important topics in contemporary Turkish history, as this large segment of the role plays an important role in Turkish economic, political, social and cultural life. The development of the Turkish trade union movement has been in stages since its establishment at the end of the Ottoman period, passing through the Republican era, it was affected by the arbitrary laws issued by the governments of the Turkish military coups against it and against the working class. As well as the trade union movement suffered from the mistrust of its working classes, because the last two were dominated by fear of the scarcity of unemployment that was threatening them because of the economic crises, globalization, and privatization, which Turkey was In addition to the employers abandoning their unions, the trade unions lost many of their members. However, the unions tried to perform their duties towards the working class that they represented, even if they were not up to their ambitions.
