During the reign of Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah, the political relations between the Emirate of Kuwait and Najd passed through two stages. The first stage began in the year 1896 and ended in the year 1905. The political relations were clear and good, and both of them benefited from each other. Their interests were common against their enemy (Al Rashid), an ally of the Ottoman Empire. Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah supported Imam Abdul Rahman bin Saud and his son, Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud, since the days of their refuge from Najd to Kuwait due to their dispute with Najd. Al Rashid, with everything he had, began to secure his international position due to the prominent position he enjoyed with the British thanks to the British protection treaty concluded between them in 1899, in addition to providing him with money and military experience, until he was able to conquer Riyadh, which was a prominent point in the history of Najd. As for the second period, relations between Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah and Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud became tense due to their ambitions for influence in the Gulf region. Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah began to follow a dual policy with the Al-Rashid family. Saud on the one hand and Al Rashid on the other hand, especially after Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud was able to reach a kind of understanding with Al Rashid regarding (Qassim Province) in 1905 after signs of disagreement began to appear between Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah and Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud, and the deterioration increased more and more when the latter was able to seize Al-Ahsa in 1913 and after that the Sabiha Conference was held with the Ottoman Empire in 1914, in which Sheikh Mubarak exerted great efforts to thwart him, and despite that, the two parties continued negotiations without the mediation of Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah, and as a result of the latter’s adoption of this policy, Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah lost his credibility before the two opposing parties in Najd, and despite the tension that prevailed, the rivalry between them remained diplomatic and did not reach the stage of threatening or requiring the intervention of a third party to calm the situation between them, and tension remained prevalent between them until Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah died in 1915. The deterioration became more and more clear when the latter managed to seize Al-Ahsa in 1913. Then the Al-Sabiha Conference was held with the Ottoman Empire in 1914 took place, where Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah made a great effort to frustrate the conference. Despite this, the two sides negotiations continued without the mediation of Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah. As a result of the latter's cohorts of this policy, Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah lost his credibility before the two conflicting parties in Najd, despite the tension that prevailed. The competition between them remained diplomatic and did not reach the stage of threatening or requiring the entry of a third party to calm the situation between them. In addition to that, tension prevailed between them until Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah died in 1915.
