Notes Astrological treatise also known as Kitāb al-mudkhal fī ṣināʿat aḥkām al-nujūm (The Book of Introduction to the Making of Star Rulings) and Mujmal al-uṣūl fī aḥkām al-nuj ūm (Majmal al-Usul fi Ahkam al-Najm) in four chapters (articles), composed in the late 10th century by Kiyā Abū al-Ḥasan Kūshyār ibn Labbān Bāshahrī al-Jīlī (Kia Abu al-Hasan Kushyar ibn Laban Bāshahrī al-Jīlī, fl. ca 961). The present copy was completed on 18 Shawwāl 1061/4 October 1651 by Ghiyāth al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn Ḥasan Bīk Munajjim, 'the astronomer' (Ghiyāth al-Dīn Muhammad ibn Hasan Bey Mine, see colophon Section at the end of a manuscript text. , f. 32v, lines 5-9, transcribed below). Ff. 23 and 26 appear to have been bound into the volume at a later date. Contents: Chapter One: Introduction and principles (the first article on the introduction and principles, ff. 14v-18v); Chapter Two: Judgement on world affairs (ff. 18v-24v); Chapter Three: Judgment on births and the revolution of their years (The Third Article on Judgment on Births and Changing Their Years, ff. 24v-31r); Chapter Four: Making elections [of propitious moments] (Fourth article on making elections, ff. 31r-32v). Begins (f. 14v, lines 1-3): Praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds, blessings be upon His Prophet and all his family. As for the venerable Kiya, Abu Al-Hasan Kushyar bin Laban bin Bashahri bin Al-Jili, I have collected in this book the principles of making rulings, their sentences, and the way to dispose of them and use them, what I thought. Sufficient in its meaning is enriching in most cases... Ends (f. 32v, lines 2-5): ...and we conclude the fourth article With this chapter and the book with this article, the keys to the unseen are hidden with him, and the secret of the keys to the unseen. Praise be to God, His bounties are sufficient, and blessings be upon Muhammad and his family. I copied it from Al-Hakim’s copy.
