Notes Treatise on drugs by Muḥammad Ibn ‘Alī al-Isfarā’inī (Muhammad bin Ali al-Isfarāni, see f. 3v, line 10), according to the spelling of the nisba Given in the manuscript and followed by Brockelmann (GALS II, 592), who gives the author a floruit date of 1543. Kaḥḥālah (III, 552, no. 14963) gives the author’s full name as Fakhr al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn ‘Alī al-Nīsābūrī al-Isfarāyīnī (Fakhr al-Din Muhammad bin Ali al-Naysaburi al-Isfarāyini), and gives him a floruit date of 1349. The work is divided into a preface, two chapters (two sections), each subdivided into sections (chapters), and a conclusion (conclusion), and a list of the chapters and sections is given on ff. 4v-5r: Preface (ff. 3v-5r); Chapter One: Simple Drugs and Foods, five sections Chapter Two: Compound Drugs, seven sections. Conclusion (Conclusion, ff. 132v-134r). The majority of the work (ff. 5v-95r) is taken up by an alphabetical list of materia medica presented in ninety synoptic tables. The copy was completed on 18 Rabī‘ II 1043/22 October 1633 by Ibn ‘Abd Allāh Abū al-Ḥasan al-Shīrāzī (Ibn Abdullah Abu Al-Hasan Al-Shirazi, see colophon Section at the end of a manuscript text. , f. 134r, lines 4-5 and 8-9, transcribed below). Begins (f. 3v, lines 1-3): Praise be to God who revealed traces of wisdom in minerals, legumes, trees, and deposited various types of benefits In the roots, branches, and flowers, and decorate trees and plants with leaves and seeds And fruits and types of medicines grow in valleys, mountains and seas... Ends (f. 134r, lines 1-3): ... expel wasps He flees from the smell of sulfur and the smell of inflorescences and garlic and does not come near From marshmallow preparation, hibiscus juice, and proven oil... Colophon Section at the end of a manuscript text.
