Notes
Commentary by Abū al-Qāsim ʻAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʻAlī Ibn Abī Ṣādiq al-Nīsābūrī (Abu al-Qasim Abd al-Rahman ibn Ali ibn Abi Sadiq al-Naysaburi, d. ca 1068) on the
Questions on Medicine for Students
(Issues in Medicine for Learners) by Abū Zayd Ḥunayn ibn Isḥāq al-‘Ibādī (Abu Zayd Hunayn ibn Ishaq al-Abadi, d. 873).
The copy is defective at beginning and end. A title page (f. 1r) added by a later hand incorrectly identifies the text as the
Sharḥ fuṣūṣ Hunayn ibn Isḥāq
(Explanation of Fusus Hunayn ibn Ishaq) and attributes it to Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn Zakarīyā (Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Zakariya, d. ca 925).
A space has been left blank for a diagram on f. 78r.
Begins (f. 2r, lines 1-4, defective at beginning):
The body suffers in these ways if the pain is excessive
Feeling harmful is the opposite, even if it does not exist in...
The body is these four bodies, when we used to suffer with one
How it works...
Ends (f. 265, lines 14-17, defective at end):
...The eleventh is to take into account the continuation of the action
It is to check whether something becomes hot or cold when it comes into contact with the body
It continues to increase with prolonged contact, or do you find that it warms or cools it?
With the meeting, and it continues to detract along the length of the meeting, or do you find it?
