Notes A geographical compendium with a particular emphasis on Egypt (see f. 1v, lines 9-13), by Abū al-Barakāt Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad Ibn Iyās (Abu al-Barakat Muhammad Ibn Ahmad Ibn Iyās; died c. 1524). The text was completed on 14 Shaʻbān 922/11 September 1516 (see f. 293v, lines 17-20 transcribed below), and the present copy was completed on 20 Ramaḍān 1065/24 July 1655 by Qāsim ibn Muḥammad al-Rūmī (Qasim ibn Muhammad al-Rūmī; see Colophon Section at the end of a manuscript text. , f. 294r, lines 3-5, transcribed below). Begins (f. 1r, lines 2-3) Praise be to God who knew, understood, and taught mankind what he did not know to guide him People seek to seize resources of knowledge and science... Ends (f. 293v, lines 17-20) ...And this is the last thing I concluded from what I collected in this book He was chosen from the news and narrations, and God Almighty helped us He collected it until it was finished on the blessed Friday of the fourteenth of Shaban Al-Mukarram of the year Nine hundred and twenty-two... Colophon Section at the end of a manuscript text. (f. 294r, lines 3-5) The completion of his writing was a transfer by the poorest of servants to the mercy of his Lord, Qasim Ibn Muhammad Al-Rumi in the holy month of Ramadan on the blessed Saturday In the year one thousand and sixty-five of the Prophet’s migration...
