Notes Parts Eight and Nine (Part Eight and Part Nine) of the Kitāb al-Ḥāwī (Book of Al-Hawi, Libre continues ), an encyclopaedic medical compendium by Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn Zakarīyā al-Rāzī (Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Zakaria al-Rāzī; d. ca 925). The title page (f. 3r) gives the following title: The eighth part of Al-Hawi’s book In medicine And in it Part nine and part ten The division between parts eight and nine is not apparent in the text. The production date of this codicological unit can be given a terminus post quem of 711/1311-12, the earliest date found among the ownership inscriptions on f. 3r. Beginnings (f. 3v, lines 2-6): Of palliative measure He said that the palliative measure is permissible for the liver. He said that it should not be used for any ailments The liver and spleen should be mixed with barley kashk water and honey for me Less sugar here reduces (?) liver problems and urination Whenever you see it retained at all, know that the tumor in the liver is very large Ends (f. 274v, lines 20-21): So he carries him with a collector and she carries him for him, for it is strange, even if his secret is a boy She gave birth to a boy, and if she was a slave girl, then she is a slave girl.
