Notes
The work in which the 17th century Mevlevi sheikh İsmâîl Rüsûhî Efendi interprets the 5th verse of the An-Nur Surah in Arabic. The meaning of the verse in question is as follows: "Allah is the light of the heavens and the earth. The representation of His light is like a lampstand with a lamp in it. That lamp is in a crystal glass, and that glass is also in it." It is like a star similar to a pearl, which is kindled from the oil of a blessed tree that cannot be compared to the east or the west. Its oil gives light almost even if it is not touched by fire. Allah guides to His light whomever He wills. Allah brings signs to people. (Nûr/35) The concept of light, which is one of the important topics of discussion in Islamic Sufism, was also in the area of interest of İsmâîl Rüsûhî Efendi. This work, which the author wrote in line with the Illuminationist thought, was essentially shaped by the influence of Gazzâlî's famous work, Mişkâtu'l-Envâr. Rüsûhî Efendi stated that many secrets were discovered to him while reading this verse in the An-Nur Surah and wrote the work with the aim of sharing these secrets with his addressees. However, the author's main intention in compiling the work is that those who interpreted the verse in question were not able to get into the depth of the verse sufficiently. The work consists of four chapters. In the first chapter, the nature of light is evaluated. The first part of the verse, "Allah is the light of the heavens and the earth," is interpreted. In the second chapter, the concepts of mishkat, misbâh and zucace are evaluated. In the third chapter, the olive tree and the concepts of knowledge and ma'rifat around it are explained. In the fourth chapter, the concept of guidance is examined (Tanyıldız 2010: 32). There are seven copies of Misbâhu'l-Esrâr in various libraries. The oldest dated copy is the text number 2872 in the Suleymaniye Library Hacı Mahmud Efendi Section, copied in 1035/1625. For the poet's biography, see. “Rüsûhî, Şeyh İsmail Rüsûhî Efendi”.
