Notes	An addendum made by Mehmed Münîb Ayıntâbî, one of the great scholars raised in Antep, to the work Devhatü'l-Meşâyihad written by Müstakimzâde Süleyman Efendi. Devhatü'l-Meşâyih contains the biographies of the people who served as sheikh al-Islam from the beginning of the Ottoman Empire until 1158/1745-46. Addendums were written consecutively to the work in question, and Müstakimzâde also wrote two addendums to his own work. In his first addendum, he told the biographies of the sheikh al-Islams who were in the position of sheikh until 1175/1761-62 and in his second addendum until 1200/1785-86. Mehmed Münîb, who wrote two more addendums to this work, started the introduction of his first addendum with the classical order of basmala, praise and salvela. In his introduction, he stated that he decided to write a third addendum to explain the qualifications of the people who rose to the rank of Shaykh al-Islam from where the work left off - in the year 1200/1785-86 - and that he started to write his work in accordance with Müstakîmzâde's style, upon the words of a person of great nature. Münîb Efendi started this addendum where Müstakîmzâde left off, by completing the remaining part of Müftîzâde Ahmed Efendi's sheikh; He included the biographies of 8 sheikh al-Islams (Mehemmed Mekkî Efendi, Mehemmed Kâmil Efendi, Mehemmed Şerîf Efendi, Hamîdîzâde Mustafa Efendi, Yahyâ Tevfîk Efendi, Dürrîzâde es-Seyyid Mehemmed Ârif Efendi and Mustafâ Âşir Efendi) along with the biography of Müftîzâde Ahmed Efendi. The author started his second addendum with basmala, hamdela and salvela and, as in the first one, talked about Müstakîmzâde and his works in this field; He stated that he wrote an addendum with the title of zeyl-i salis where Müstakîmzâde left off. Later, he said that a few years had passed since this addendum, that this position had become more beautiful with Ahmed Es'ad Efendi, who had ascended to the position of Shaykh al-Islam during this time, that he had beautiful qualities worthy of praise, and that he had written a fourth addendum to explain him. In this addendum, he included the following names: Mustafa Âşir Efendi (continued), Ömer Hulûsî Efendi and Mehemmed Sâlih Efendizâde Ahmed Es'ad Efendi (Bilgin 2016). In the addendums of Münîb, the education status, place of duty, lineage or kinship relations, titles or dates of birth of the sheikh al-Islams were first given; Then, the duties of the person before becoming the Shaykh al-Islam are mentioned. When announcing the accession of Sheikh al-Islams to this position, expressions specifically indicating dates were used; When describing their dismissal or death, the date was omitted. Information is also given about the places where the sheikh al-Islams, who are said to have passed away, were buried. Following this information, it is stated until which sultan's term the Shaykh al-Islam remained in office, and his personality traits are mentioned afterwards. After this, a prayer was made to the Shaykh al-Islam and a person from his lineage, if any, who held an official position was mentioned. While writing the lives of sheikh al-Islams, Münîb played a major role in revealing all dimensions of religious life (Altuner 2017). The introduction parts of Münîb Efendi's addendums were written in an ornate prose style - as in the general case of classical prose. In each of the addendums, fluency and the words that ensure this have been carefully selected. Seci, one of the important harmonic elements of classical period Turkish prose, was also frequently used. Although the work is in prose, poems that Münîb wrote himself or quoted from other poets are also included in the work. There are many manuscript copies of Münîb's addendums, also known as Sefînetü'l-Fesâha. These; Süleymaniye Library Esad Efendi section 2441/4, 2265/4 and 2265/5, Manuscript Donations section 5497/4 and 5497/5, Hüsrev Pasha section 390/3 and 391/4, Bağdatlı Vehbi section 1148/4 and 1148/5; National Library Ali Emiri 721/4 and 721/5; Bayezid Public Library Veliyüddin Efendi 3459; Istanbul University Rare Books Library TY 10289 and TY 2558; Topkapı Palace Museum Library Treasury 1302; Egyptian National Library Turkish Manuscripts 155, 167 and 168; Khedive Library Turkish Manuscripts 8951/4; German National Library Turkish Manuscripts Ms. Or. Oct. It was registered in 2219 (Altuner 2017: 278-279). A facsimile edition of the Devhatü'l-Meşâyihve supplements was published with a comprehensive review and index addition by Barbara Kellner-Heinkele (Stuttgart 2005). A doctoral thesis was also written by Emrah Bilgin on the Devhatü'l-Meşâyihve supplements in question. In the thesis, the works were examined in detail and critical texts of the works were included (Erzurum 2016). There is a study by Nuran Altuner (2016) on the addendums of Münîb.
