Notes
Cemâl Halvetî's work, in which he mainly interprets the 35th verse of the An-Nur Surah and makes evaluations about a few issues that he finds important in religious-mystical matters. Kitâbu'n-Nûriyye and Kevkebü'd-Dürriyye are treatises of commentary. In this seven-leaf treatise, the author explains the Surah An-Nur. In a way, he made an ishari interpretation of the 35th verse. The verse in question: "Allah is the light of the heavens and the earth. The representation of His light is like a lampstand with a lamp in it. That lamp is in a crystal (glass) bell jar. That bell jar is like a star shining like a pearl, which is kindled from a blessed tree, that is, an olive, that cannot be compared to either the east or the west. Its oil is so pure, so bright that it can almost be burned even though it is not lit." "This is light upon light. Allah guides to His light whomever He wishes. Allah brings such representations to people." (en-Nur, 24/35). The author begins the work with Bismillah. He then continues with praise to Allah and salawat to His Messenger (Cemâl Halvetî 686: 2b). He explained the reason for writing the work as follows: "O muhib! If you want to know the mystery and truth of this verse, listen to the words of this poor person who is called Cemâl Halvetî." He mentions his own name here (Cemâl Halvetî 686: 3a) and makes Sufi interpretations by interpreting the verse in four aspects. After interpreting the verse in four aspects, he took it as a sacred hadith: "O Ahmed! If you want to taste faith, starve your soul and hold your tongue. If you do this, you will be saved; if you do not, you will be destroyed." He interpreted the hadith. Here he explains the meanings of the letters of the word "cû' (hunger)" in terms of Sufism. Then he focuses on the subject of communion with God. In addition, the author often says in the treatise "Eyyühe'l-Muhibbe: O Muhib!" and reminding us that "V'ağlem: Know that", "Human is composed of three letters such as elif, nun and sin." and explains what these letters indicate. The author completed the treatise with the words: "O muhib! Know that from the heart of this poor man, the blessings of divine wisdom flow from the grace of Allah. The bounty is in the hands of Allah and He gives it to whomever He wishes." (Cemal Halvetî, 686: 9a). Surah An-Nur, and especially the verse in question, has an important place in the Sufi tradition, and this verse is one of the verses that Sufis emphasize and interpret in terms of metaphor. Cemâl Halvetî, who stands out with his mystical aspect as well as his scientific aspect, makes this exegesis in accordance with the exegesis understanding of the sect he is a follower of and represents, and it constitutes an important example in terms of showing how a verse can be interpreted in different ways (Müftüoğlu 2017: 92). Çakmak (2015) made an evaluation of the work in question, Ulu (2022) briefly discussed it, and Hacımüftüoğlu (2017) published the researched text of the work in an article.
