Sample Text In the name of God... As for what follows, when I saw the book “Introduction to Knowledge” by the honorable Imam Hippocrates, which has a lot of knowledge and benefits, deep in meaning and uniqueness, and that it is like the principles that the doctor must understand and recall, and he cannot claim this art unless the information is preserved with him, and its expressions were closed, and its words were not clear, indicating their meanings, and their issues were not consistent and regular. Rather, some of them were symbolized and some were widespread, so I started with it, with God’s help. Almighty God, I wrote this explanation to make his matter easier for the students, and from God is success, and to Him is the end of the path. So we say that this book contains three articles. The first article is about the signs taken from the face, brain, chest, and sweat, and tumors occurring below the epigastrium. The second article is about the signs taken from feces, urine, slugs, pus from the chest, and abscesses. The third article is about the signs taken from the two seas and treating things that remain from diseases. The first article is about the signs taken from the face, brain, chest, and sweat. And tumors that occur without the epigastrium and other things. Imam Hippocrates said, “I see that one of the best things is for the doctor to use foresight of the explanation. I know that ((but)) the book was called an introduction to knowledge because the purpose of this book is for the doctor to have a mastery of the issues of medical science, both theoretical and practical.

The word min is consistently written in an unusual way, with the nūn hooked back beneath the word. It is written in dense-black ink with headings in red; there are occasional red overlinings. Black overlinings were added later. There are catchwords. The text being commented upon is usually introduced by the phrase qāla Ibqurāṭ and the gloss by al-sharḥ.
