A collection of about three thousand proverbs, wisdom sayings and traditions. | Ms. codex., Title from title page (fol. 1a)., Marginal notes and glosses., Collection: Paper ; fol. ii + 212 ; catchwords; Modern foliation in pencil using Western numerals., Layout: 23 lines per page; opening spread frame-ruled in red (fol. 1b-2a)., Description: Rubricated ; overlining in red; watermarks (unidentified circular mark); MS in good condition., Origin: According to colophon copy completed in Ṣafar 1002 Damascus by Ibrāhīm ʻAlī al-Qādirī (fol. 212b)., Incipit: In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, and in Him we seek help. Praise be to God, who has illuminated the hearts of those who know, so quote from the glosses of all.. and words... As for what follows, the poor man says to God Almighty, “Ali.” Bin Hussam al-Din, known as al-Muttaqi al-Hanafi... I collected about three [thousand] wisdoms in it..., Colophon: It was edited by the poor Ibrahim Ali al-Qadiri in guarded Damascus for the months of the year two thousand two at midnight on Saturday | Later type II (with flap) binding in brown leather with red leather spine and flap connector. Gold-stamped mandorla with pendants and gold-tooled decorative edging on covers. Similar edging design on flap with a variant gold-painted stamped design. Green leather doublures with gold-stamped designs. Binding appears to be patched together from different sources. | Ownership signature: Aḥmadī al-Nūf..[?] known as Imām ʻUthmān Bāshā dated 1250 with his seal impression (fol. 1a); seal impression at the end of the colophon (fol. 212b).
