Notes
Framed, with stamps bearing the names of Abdul Halim bin Mohsen and Abdul Wahid Jaid. On the cover of the manuscript: Mawlawi Abd al-Hakim, Four Introductions.. It is a title that has some validity, as will be explained: Taqnih al-Usul is a famous book on the principles of jurisprudence, by Sadr al-Shari’ah al-Mahboubi (d. 747 AH). Its beginning is: To Him the good words ascend.. etc., then he explained it in a book entitled al-Taḥrīḥ fi solving the mysteries of al-Taqḥah, so the explanation became a famous text, explained by a large group of fundamentalists with well-known explanations, the most famous of which is: Sharh Saad al-Din al-Taftazani, who published it under the title al-Talawih fi Kashf al-Haqiqat al-Tanqih, and with this explanation, and the rest of the book’s explanations are many footnotes. Haji Khalifa says, after mentioning the book’s explanations and their footnotes: Then, when the discussion on the matters related to al-Talawih ended, what remained was what they classified in the four introductions of clarification, which are famous, ambiguous introductions in the middle of the book. He mentioned them on his own to show the weakness of what al-Ash’ari argued that goodness and ugliness are not They are proven only by command and prohibition.. Then he presented his evidence.. This is based on four premises. There are comments on these introductions, including the comment by Mawla Alaa al-Din Ali al-Arabi al-Halabi (who died in the year 901 AH), who was the first to comment on them. He had two major-minor commentaries, etc. (Kashf al-Dunun, pp. 496-498). Among those who commented on the four introductions, Haji Khalifa did not mention anyone named: Abd al-Hakim bin Shams al-Din.
Sample Text
Praise be to Him who sent down His Book as an explanation of everything... And then, the poor poor Abdul Hakim bin Shams Al-Din says: The science most deserving of choice... is the science of the foundations of religion, which is a beacon for guidance to the rules of Islam... especially the four introductions from the two books Al-Tawheeh and Al-Talawih, for they revealed the leg of seriousness in investigation and revision... So I wanted to achieve them, to make it easy for the people, with comments that were serious to my heart.
