Notes - Published by Sheikh Suleiman Zahir in (“Journal of the Arab Scientific Academy” [Damascus 1953] pp. 355 - 364, 559 - 574, 668); (29 [1954] pp. 22-35, 184-202). - The written version was adopted in the books of Astan Quds in the Razavi scene - in Iran. This Council copy that we have is a photocopy of it. - Sheikh Muhammad Hassan Al Yassin was responsible for investigating and publishing it, so he published it in (Journal of the Iraqi Scientific Academy) 16 [Baghdad 1968], pp. 317-332: for the Muhaqqiq’s introduction. In it, he discussed: linguistic derivation, the translation of Al-Asma’i, and his works, and described the two versions he adopted: the Al-Mashhad Al-Radawi version, and the Egyptian House of Books version. + pp. 333-356: Text of the book of derivation). - Dr. Salim Al-Naimi devoted me to its investigation and explanation (Baghdad 1968, 216 pages), and published it with an introduction in which he dealt with: Al-Asma’i’s translation, his writings, and his poetry, then he described the book Al-Istiqāq and its written copies, and he adopted the text of the Istana manuscript. He also - when necessary - returned to the Astan Quds version. - The author is the narrator of the Arabs, one of the imams of knowledge of language, poetry, and countries. He attributed it to his grandfather, Asmaa. There is a lot of news about him. He was born in Basra, grew up there, then came to Baghdad at the invitation of Al-Rashid. He called him “the devil of poetry.” Al-Akhfash said: We have not seen anyone more knowledgeable about poetry than Al-Asma’i. Al-Shafi’i said about it: No one expressed it better than Al-Asma’i’s statement. Al-Mubarrad said: Al-Asma’i was a master of the language and no one like him was known in it and in the abundance of narrations. Al-Asma’i used to say: I memorize ten thousand arjouza. His books are many, on different topics: literature, language, history, genealogy, countries, and so on. - The author died in Basra. And he was buried in it. There was disagreement in the year of his death. It was said: 210, 215, 216 and 217 AH. - On the title page: “The Book of Derivation.” On the authority of Abu Saeed Abdul Malik bin Qarib Al-Asma’i. The narration of Abu Khalifa Al-Fadl bin Al-Habbab Al-Jumahi, on the authority of Abu Othman Bakr bin Muhammad Al-Mazni, Abu Al-Fadl Al-Riyashi, and Abu Muhammad Al-Tawzi. - On this page there is a (seal) indicating the endowment of the manuscript, and other (seals) of the witnesses present. This manuscript was in the first place. One of the possessions of the least servant of God is Muhyiddin bin Lutfullah, and it is devoid of the date of its writing. - A photocopy of a handwritten copy in (Katebkhana Astan Quds, in the Razavi scene - Iran), (No. 3644, general) from the language books. Nader Shah endowed it in the year 1145 AH, and the names were also written on the margin of the page. - Description of this copy: Sheikh Suleiman Zahir, within his research (“The Iranian Offices: and the Razavi Library - in Mashhad Khorasan -, and a description of some of its books”: “Journal of the Arab Scientific Academy” 23 [Damascus 1948] pp. 398 - 399. - The owner of the endowment, Nader Shah, was killed in the year 1160 AH = (1747 AD) and was buried in Mashhad.
