Notes
It was composed in Baghdad. The copyist wrote its text in black ink, and used red ink to write the titles and some words such as: ((Inform us)) and (Introduction)) and so on, on a newly made ink. The last of them is an entry in Abd al-Hayy’s handwriting, from which it appears that he wrote this copy in Rajab of the year 1291 AH, from a bad copy. Then he found another copy copied from a copy read on the compiler and on it was the handwriting of al-Hafiz al-Sakhawi, so he compared his copy with it word for word and corrected it to the best of his ability in the same year. The first is an index of the contents of the copy. Copies: Two copies are in the Khudabakhsh Index 35/26-27, two copies are in the Escorial, another is in Mahmudiyah in Medina, and another is in the Ibrahim Pasha Library in Istanbul, number: 256, and see: Brockelmann 1/356.
Sample Text
(Praise be to God, the Great, the Most High, the Most Beneficent, the Most Favorite, the One described with power and perfection...) As for what follows, here is a book in which I mention what I have come to know about the abrogator and abrogator of the hadith of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, since it is sublime knowledge with depth and mystery in which heads turn and souls are lost in discovering its hidden contents. Some of those who have not had the privilege of knowing the traces have imagined anything but traces.
