Notes The message is the author’s journey to the mosque and shrine of Khalid bin Al-Walid in the Syrian city of Homs, during which he presents a translation of Khaled bin Al-Walid, as well as his significant poem in praise of him, which begins: Homs, with Khaled bin Al-Walid *** is a fortress for its sheikh, and Al-Walid is a Quraysh from the Kab of Banu Luayy *** the descendants of a people who are skilled in hunting. This poem, consisting of 68 lines, was hung above the shrine of Khalid ibn al-Walid in Homs. The text is surrounded by a double border in red ink.
Sample Text Then, when Friday prayer approached, we went outside the town, to the mosque in which the great companion Sidi Khaled bin Al-Walid, may God be pleased with him, was buried, in order to pray Friday prayers there with the brothers. On the way, we passed the valley called the Red Dune, in which it was said that three hundred men among the companions of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, were martyred. We recited Al-Fatihah to them, and prayed to God Almighty there with whatever supplications we could, then we entered the Khalid bin Al-Walid Mosque.
