Date 695 AH/1295 AD; Corner of the title page.
Notes It was written on the title page: “The Royal Treasury, Al-Makhdomi Al-Badriya... [?] The command is the deputy of the glorious Sultanate, may God Almighty preserve it as long as its owner lives.” This phrase was written in its text on the title paper of each of the following four parts. At the bottom of the title page of the first part is this: “Abd al-Baqi Arif bin Muhammad al-Faqir has the honor of reading this dangerous book. When he was a teacher in one of the eight. May God forgive them - during the year 1087 AH. Ali bin Muhammad bin al-Abbas al-Tawhidi, Abu Hayyan: philosopher, Mu’tazili Sufi. Yaqut al-Hamawi called him: the sheikh of Sufism, the philosopher of writers, the writer of philosophers, the researcher of speech, and the imam of eloquent speakers. He was born in Shiraz, and it was said in Nishapur, he resided for a period in Baghdad, and moved to Rayy, where he accompanied Ibn al-Amid and al-Sahib bin Abbad, but he did not appreciate their loyalty. They reported him to the vizier al-Muhallabi, so he sought him out, so he hid from him and died in hiding. And in “Mu’jam al-Adab’a” and “Baghyat al-Wa’a”: When the days were turning towards the end of his life, he saw that his books would be of benefit to him, and he was afraid of them for someone who did not know their value after his death, so he collected them and burned them. Nothing was spared except what was transported before the burning. His translation and reports, and his works were mentioned in: (“Abu Hayyan al-Tawhidi: His Biography - His Works”: Written by Dr. Abd al-Razzaq Muhyi al-Din. Cairo), (“Abu Hayyan al-Tawhidi”: Written by: Dr. Ahmed Muhammad al-Hawfi. Cairo 1964), (“Abu Hayyan al-Tawhidi”: Written by Muhammad Kurd Ali: “Umra’ al-Bayan” 2: 494 - 566), (“The Department of Islamic Encyclopedias” translation Arabic: Abu Hayyan al-Tawhidi: Written by Margoliouth 1: 333 - 335), (“Brockelmann” 1: 244), (The introduction written by Hassan al-Sandubi, in which the book “Al-Muqabasat” was published), (The introduction written by: Ahmed Amin and Ahmed al-Zein, in which “Enjoyment and Sociability” was published), the introduction written by: Dr. Ibrahim Al-Kilani, and published the first volume of “Al-Basā’ir wa Al-Thakhīr” (“Al-A’lam” 5: 144-145), (“Dictionary of Authors” 7: 205-206), and the various references they mentioned regarding it. There is disagreement about the year of his death. Al-Dhahabi said that he died in the year 400 AH. Ibn Shaker said: He died in the year 380 AH. Al-Suyuti and Tash Kubri Zadeh said: He died around 380 AH. Al-Shirazi said: He died in 414 AH. - The most wonderful thing that Al-Tawhidi was known for was this book, when he said: “I created this book based on the narration of what happened, because it is the fruit of a lifetime, the butter of days, and the depository of experiences... And you do not have to look closely at all that is contained in this book, because it is like a garden that collects the colors of flowers, and like a sea that contains varieties of pearls, and like eternity that brings wonders of lessons.” - There was a precious, complete copy of “Al-Basa’ir” in the bookstore of the Tawoos family (d. 664 AH = 1264 AD). See: (“Journal of the Iraqi Scientific Academy” 13 [Baghdad 1966] p. 277). - An illustrated copy in fatstats, from a photocopied copy in the Egyptian House of Books (from the handwritten copy in the Fatih Library in Istanbul. It is also photocopied at Cairo University (No. 2296 Adab). This Fatih copy, in the handwriting of Al-Ashraf Ibn Al-Qadi Al-Fadil, was copied in the year 628 AH. Most of its words are intertwined and not lexicalized, which made it difficult to read and ambiguous to most eyes. Dr. Abd al-Razzaq Muhyiddin said about it: “...despite that, it is the best-precise copy and the most sound original, because the effect of literary awareness is clear in the work of its copyist.”) in Cairo (No. 1904 - Literature).
