Notes - From “Sawanih al-Qariha fi Sharh al-Safiha,” a handwritten copy that was in the library of Yaqoub Sarkis’s books in Baghdad, and today in the library of the Iraqi Museum in Baghdad. See (Korkis Awad: “Index of Manuscripts from the Treasury of Jacob Sarkis,” p. 129, serial 194). I was responsible for investigating “Sawanih al-Qariha fi Sharh al-Safhiha” and publishing it: Dr. Sabah Mahmoud (Director General of Cultural Guidance at the Ministry of Higher Education), Baghdad. 1979. Among them is a written copy in the Public Endowments Library in Baghdad, entitled: “The Plate in Astrolabe Works”: (“Al-Kashshaf” p. 214). See regarding it: (“The History of Astronomy in Iraq” p. 264, 269, 301 - “The Plate”: by Bahaa al-Din al-Amili (d. 1031 AH = 1622 AD), who is Muhammad bin Hussein bin Abdul Samad al-Harithi al-Amili, Baha’. Religion: A scholar, writer, and scholar. He was born in Baalbek, and moved to Iran when he was young. He died in Tus, and was buried in Tus. He wrote many books, including “Al-Kashkul” and “Al-Makhla.” He was a jurist and an astronomer. He grew up in Mosul and moved to Baghdad. He became the head of the Diwan al-Insha, and the world praised him تآليف. جاء بخصوص وفاته في ("الكشاف" ص 213) أنها كانت سنة 1185هـ.
Sample Text “The Basmala..., Blessed is He who made constellations in the sky, and placed therein a lamp and a shining moon, and made the night and the day a succession for whoever wanted to remember or wanted to be grateful. Have you not seen to your Lord how He extends the shadow..., and after: Then the poor person says to God who is rich, Bahaa al-Din Muhammad al-Amili. It was memorized, and it was of great help in what it was composed of, if it was studied and carefully studied. It included astrolabe works. I wrote it down in compliance with a sign issued by the dearest of the people of understanding, calling it the plate due to the possibility of drawing it on an astrolabe plate. I seek help from God, and He is the best disposer of affairs. And so says the servant who lacks his rich and exalted master, Abu Muhammad Abdullah bin Fakhr al-Din al-Husseini al-Mawsili: When I saw the letter. What has been mentioned has many benefits, is dear to its roots, with the brevity of its wording and expression, and the accuracy of its allusion and reference, and there was no need for an explanation that would uncover the beauty of its scraps, and remove the chaff from the core of its benefits. I wrote on it what was necessary for it and which it could not do without, despite the crowding of spiritual desires and the accumulation of physical concerns... and the distance from one’s home and home, and the distance from one’s homelands and neighbourhoods, which led me to it. In addition to this, there was a renewed desire to seize scientific resources... with some of those who were interested in reading the art to me. I responded to what was suggested to me... and I called it “Sawanih Al-Qariha” in Sharh Al-Safiha, and I ask God for help in this, and He is my suffice and He is the best disposer of affairs.
