The editor of this anthology, who included some extracts from his own letters and several poems of his own composition, was considered the first poet of his time. He fulfilled the functions of qadi in Cairo, under the reign of Saladin, and carried the honorary title of Al-Qâdhî ʾl-Saʿîd. He died in 608 A.H. (1212 A.D.). His Life is found in the Dictionary of Ibn Khallikân, vol. III, p. 589 of the translation. The same work, t. II, p. 111, contains a notice on Al-Qâdhî al-Fâdhil. We read in the present collection some passages which relate to the wars against the Crusaders and the capture of the city of Acre.
