Notes
A frieze panel forming a visible part of the interior of the enclosure of the upper niche of the choir of Saint Clare Monastery. The geometric tear-shaped decoration engraved within an outer border with a smooth decorative relief at the lower part contrasts with the border of acanthus leaves, of the classical appearance of the upper edge. The right side, partly missing, consists of wavy lines with geometric decoration; While the left side presents a decoration of the Cross of Saint Andre. The tears were met two by two, and were inscribed within circular structures that extended to the edges with other winding tear structures. This decorative motif was imported from Flanders by Hannekan of Brussels, who used it in the Chapel of Saint Jacques in Toledo Cathedral. The edges are decorated with balls characteristic of the rule of the Catholic Kings; This type of decoration, where Gothic structures translated into plaster are harmoniously combined, saw great success in Castile at the end of the Gothic style. An interesting example remains the railing of the staircase of the University of Henares Castle, contemporary with this piece.
