Notes
Short copy of a manuscript, content: Dictionary for the chronicle of the Waṣṣāf, in which the Arabic, Persian and Tschagataic words appearing in this work are explained in Turkish. - According to the preface, the manuscript is an excerpt written by Ibrāhīm Ḥanīf from the larger dictionary of the Naẓmīzāda Baġdādī, which Hammer mentions in the preface to his Qusgabe of the History of Waṣṣāf and in his History of the Beautiful Oratory Arts of Persia p. 244 note 1. - The words are arranged alphabetically by the first letter. - The copy was completed by Aḥmed, called Ḥāfiẓ al-Qurʾān, at the end of Rabīʿ I. 1174 [h.q.] [1760]. The manuscript was therefore made in the same year 1174 [h.q.] [1760] in which the author completed the fair copy of the work. From the works of his father cited by Aḥmed Ḥanīfzādeh [son of the author], it emerges that he was active as a writer from the year 1142-1180 [h.q.] [1729 or 1730 to 1766 or 1767]. In a title given to the manuscript by a later hand, the work is entitled "Talḫīṣ-i šarḥ wa ṣāf" and the author, who was no longer alive at the time, said that he died after being removed from his post of judge (Mollā) in Brussa and that he was counted among the outstanding men of Asia Minor. - In 1196 [h.q.] (1782) the manuscript was in the possession of Muḥammad Amīn Ibn-Wāli-ad-Dīn, Qāḍīs in Mecca. Later (1825) she acquired J.M. Jouannin, who gave it to his friend Auguste Baron de Nerciat in 1829, script: Nasḫī, equipment: written on smoothed oriental paper. The explained words are written in red., Old signature: Quatremère 166, BSB provenance: Étienne Quatremère (1782-1857)
