Notes The poet takes a cup of wine, from Thirty Letters (Sī-nāma, or Love Letters, `Ishq-nāma) by Amīr Ḥusaynī (d. 1318). The poet sits in a garden enclosure, beneath trees and beside a meandering stream in a golden landscape. A young cupbearer (sāqī) hands him a cup of wine. Folio, ink, colours and gold on paper, re-mounted in gold-painted blue borders, Persian text in nasta`liq script, with painting (on recto), from Thirty Letters (Sī-nāma, also called Love Letters, `Ishq-nāma) by Amīr Ḥusaynī Fakhr al-Sādāt (d. 1318, Herat), from a collection (majmū`a) of Persian poetry, dedicated to Timurid ruler Abū Sa`īd (r. 1451-69), decorated borders added later by order of Shaybanid ruler `Abd al-Aziz (r. 1540-1549), probably produced in Herat, Afghanistan, c. 1450, with replacement borders added Bukhara, Uzbekistan, c. 1540-1549
