They would have said, “Our Lord, if You had not sent us a messenger so that we might follow Your signs before we are humiliated by killing and captivity in this world and disgraced by entering Hell on the Day of Resurrection.” It was read with the construction for the direct object in both of them. Say, “Everyone,” meaning every one of us and of you. He is lurking, waiting for what our and your affairs will lead to. So they waited and it was read: “So enjoy.” So you will know who are the companions of the straight path. It is read as “normal” meaning the good middle and “bad” and “bad” meaning evil, and “normal” is its diminutive. And who is guided from error, and who is in the two places to be questioned

Özet
Kadı Beyzâvî’nin bu eseri dirâyet tefsiri geleneğinin en mühim eserlerinden biri olarak kabul edilmektedir. Bu tefsiri, Zemahşerî’ye ait Keşşâf’ın mu‘tezilî görüşlerden arındırılmış hali olarak da addedenler olmuştur. Eserde lüğavî beyânâta önem verilmiştir, kelâmî konulara değinilmiş, kıraat farklılıkları yer yer zikredilmiştir. Beyzâvî, tefsirinde Zemahşerî’nin dışında Râzî, Râgıb el-Isfehânî gibi âlimlerin eserlerinden de istifade etmiştir. Ahkâmda Şâfî‘î mezhebinin görüşleri öncelendiği bu tefsirde Zemahşerî’de olduğu gibi, mevzu‘ fezâil rivayetleri ve İsrâilî bilgilerin bulunduğu mütâlaa edilmiştir. Beyzâvî’nin bu tefsiri Osmanlı medrese eğitiminde en çok okutulan tefsir eseri olmuştur. İslam dünyasında da bu eser üzerine 250’den fazla hâşiye çalışması yapılmıştır. Nüsha Fâtiha sûresinin tefsirinden başlayıp Taha sûresi 135. ayetin tefsirinde sona ermektedir.
