| Notlar | The letter and its enclosure relate to a complaint made by Shaikh Sultan bin Suggur [Sultan bin Saqr], the ruler of Ra’s al-Khaymah, of his unfair treatment at the hands of British officials in relation to prosecution for the slave trade in the region. Enclosed with the letter is an extract of paragraph 12 of despatch no.8 of 1857 (folio 219) from the Court of Directors, dated 14 January 1857, which states that, should Shaikh Sultan repeat his complaint, he will be invited to assist in bringing to justice those other Shaikhs, in whose territories he claims the slave trade carries on. | 2 folios | more | less |
