Anonymous., Copied A.H. 1076 [A.D. 1666] by ʻUmar ibn ʻAbd Allāh., Fols. 30; 20.5 x 14.2 cm.; written surface 16 x 9 cm.; 29 lines to page; on glazed European paper; in naskhi; with catchwords; entries in red., A compendium containing brief accounts of the lives of twenty ancient philosophers., Beg.: بسم الله ... م, A few marginal notes. The author, we learn from the introduction, composed his work and then dedicated it to al-Nāṣir Yūsuf ibn Muḥammad ibn Ghāzī ibn Yūsuf ibn Ayyūb, who ruled in Aleppo A.D. 1236-60 and in Damascus A.D. 1250-60, and who died A.H. 659 [A.D. 1261]. On the title page, however, the work is ascribed to ʻUmar ibn Ẓafar, the author of Sulwān al-muṭāʻ. This evidently is a mistake because the author of Sulwān al-muṭāʻ was Muḥammad ibn Abī Muḥammad ibn Ẓafar and not ʻUmar, and because Muḥammad ibn Ẓafar died A.H. 565 [A.D. 1174], ninety-one years before the Ayyūbid Sultan to whom the work was dedicated. MS in good condition; Arabic leather binding; blind stamped., Acquired from Bārūdī, Beirūt, A.D. 1925.
