Yunan gökbilimci Ptolemy'nin Almagest'ine dayanan bu kitap, Orta Çağ evren anlayışına göre dünyayı çevreleyen dokuz kürenin sekizinde yer alan ve Sabit Yıldızlar olarak bilinen kırk sekiz takımyıldızla ilgilidir. Takımyıldızların her biri, yerden ve gökyüzünden gözlemlendiğinde gösterilen ayna görüntüsünde iki kez görünür.
