Notlar Bowl, fritware, underglaze painted in blue and black with stylized foliage and flowers; Iran, 1630-60.
Malzemeler ve teknikler Fritware, painted in underglaze blue and black Fritware Painted Glazed
Fiziksel açıklama The whole of the outer surface of the bowl is painted with a succession of four floral compositions, each of them springing from a leaf-shaped mound set on a crest of white waves. They combine whimsical branches with expansive lotus leaves often ending in a flame shape. Blooms and lotus pads are fanciful. The inner rim band consists of a reserve-painted scroll with ruyis. The well is plain. A similar floral composition to the outer decoration fills the centre. There is no mark. Colours are two blues and black. Although mended and with a few cracks, the large bowl remains an outstanding example of an original Persian approach to the Chinese lotus theme.
