Fiziksel açıklama
Fragment, possibly from a tunic, in warp-faced plain woven undyed linen, decorated with a square tapestry woven panel in purple wool and undyed linen. The fragment has been backed onto a more modern tulle and linen fabric. At the centre of the panel is a medallion with a seated nude female dressing her hair, on a false hatched border. This is likely a depiction of Aphrodite/Venus at her toilet, wringing the water from her hair. At her side is a mirror and perfume box. This medallion lies within a rectangle with fishes in the spaundrels. Surrounding this is a pattern border with floral motifs forming V-shaped lozenges enclosing quatrefoils, and at each corner a roundel enclosing a flower. Details have been picked out in undyed linen thread. Plain weave: Linen warp (S-spun, 36/cm) Linen weft (S-spun, 20-24/cm) Tapestry weave: Linen warp (S-spun) Wool weft (Z-spun, c.60/cm) Linen weft (S-spun)
