Carpet fragment of wool and cotton, soumak single, with diagonal and vertical wrapping. WARP: white and light brown wool with pink wool in parts as if red dye had bled into it; Z3S; 18 threads per inch (72 per dm). WEFT: Foundation: white cotton; Z2S; 1 shoot after pattern weft. Pattern: wool and cotton; 14 colours: dark red, red, orange, olive green, green, light green, dark blue, light blue, purple (faded), pink, brown, light brown, black/dark brown, white cotton; Sequence: over 4 warp threads and back behind 2. SIDE FINISH: returned wefts. END FINISH: cut. DESIGN: the whole is filled by two dragons, side by side, complete except for the tips of their ears, on a dark red ground. The left-hand dragon is dark blue, outlined, doubly castellated in green. The right-hand one is white, outlined in light blue. Both dragons contain many bands of left-facing, angular S-motifs. The four panels around which the dragons curve contain three figures waisted like hourglasses. Zili Iverneh design.

This, one of ... and "more expensive, is of a well-known but rare kind and affords a useful example of sumaq qeaving in small compass".
