Bag face WARP: cream wool; Z2S; 24 threads per inch (91 per dm). WEFT: brown wool; Z2S; 2 shoots after each row of knots; 28 knots per inch (approx. 112 per dm counted at 56 per 5 cms.). PILE: wool and silk; 6 colours: red, green, dark blue, dark pink (silk), brown, cream; asymmetrical knot open to the right and tied around 2 threads; 336 knots per sq. inch (2548 per sq. dm). SIDE FINISH: cut END FINISH: cut, but evidence at the upper end of a row of knots tied around 4 threads to create a multi-coloured fringe. Lower: evidence of plain weave with light blue weft. DESIGN: field: cream ground with five bands of four or five guls, outlined in red and alternately green or blue. In the centre of an interior red, angular motif is a small green or blue rectangle containing a mirror-image triangle in pink silk. Main border: cream ground with quartered red/green lozenges along red stem, bracketted individually in red across the stem. Upper and lower bands 2.5 cm. of undecorated red pile with the lower decorated with a line of blue and a line of green. Catalogue date: 10.8.94
