Notlar felted wool; patchwork, 1850, Persian
İlişki Caspar Purdon Clarke
Malzemeler ve teknikler woollen yarn, silk thread, weaving, patchwork, embroidering, printing, sewing
Fiziksel açıklama Resht work, plain weave felted wool, patchwork, inlaid work, embroidered with silk in a variety of stitches predominantly chain stitch, faced with woven wool and with evidence of a yellow silk satin backing which is no longer present. Note: researchers may use the terms applique and tambour when searching for this category of textile even though they are incorrect. the central panel is decorated with a narrow lattice delineating a vertical series of red lobed lozenges and another series of olive green lozenges. [1] red lozenge contains a central rosette with either maroon red or faded brown petals and a pink centre - both with 2 pairs of white chain stitch stems carrying 2 blue flower heads [top and bottom] and 2 off-white ones plus green leaves and white or beige buds. [2] olive green ground with a off-white star-like flower with similar white stems carrying 4 red and white petal forms. The ground of many of the lozenges, especially the red ones, has been pieced before being embroidered. The design was printed or stencilled onto the ground and there are places where it is out of alignment. A narrow yellow border follows, decorated top and bottom with black silk in a simple pattern of 2 undulating lines. This is followed by a blue border, cut from a lozenge strip - it is decorated with a white stem meander carrying red rosettes and brown star flowers, red pointed buds and isolated yellow leaves. Then a narrow red border edging a wider dark pink ground, pieced before being embroidered. A white interrupted meandering stem with blue leaves and yellow star shaped flowers. There is a narrow red border followed by a repeat of the blue ground border and a narrow yellow border ending with an undecorated outer red border. All the major seams are concealed by a thick black and white silk cord. Embroidery thread: mostly unplied but the red silk in 2S. White, light blue, light green, yellow, light brown, red, pink. Inset wool: scarlet, olive green, blue, two shades of yellow, dark pink, light brown, black, white, off-white, dark green, purple. Facing: bias cut striped wool; dark blue stripe with a small leaf motif in 2 variations and a white stripe with a dark blue leaf meander with a small floral sprig - in white, pink, pale green and deep yellow. It was originally backed with yellow silk satin, but only traces remain.
