Notlar A T shaped cut of fabric. Egyptian, ca. AD400-500. The main part is a square, decorative panel (approx. 130mm x 130mm wide). Above that is a row of border (approx. 40mm wide). The linen is undyed and the decoration is of white and purple wool. At the panel's centre is a naked boy holding something in one hand. He is within a circle. Surrounding that is a row of guilloche with circles or leaves at each centre. This is surrounded by a square border of scrolling waves. The top line of border is also guilloche with circles or leaves in each centre, and lined with scrolling waves along the top and bottom. The top edge has two lines formed by weaving four linen threads together. The top has a small section of silvery/white, sparkling residue attached and the piece is stained with a few small holes.

Fiziksel açıklama A T-shaped fragment of fabric, containing a slit-tapestry woven square panel and part of a shoulder band in brown wool and undyed linen thread, originally from a linen tunic. Remains of the plain woven ground fabric can be seen. The fabric is stained with some holes. The shoulder band consists of a guilloche band, forming compartments within which are alternating circles and leaves, bordered above and below by scrolling waves. Above this a two selfbands each of four linen threads. The square panel consists of a square border of scrolling waves, enclosing a guilloche pattern similar to the shoulder band. Within this is a roundel containing a naked figure, on a false hatched background. Details are picked out in flying thread brocading in undyed linen thread. Plain weave: Linen warp (S-spun, 24/cm) Linen weft (S-spun, 16-18/cm) Tapestry weave: Linen warp (S-spun, 2/2) Wool weft (Z-spun) Linen weft (S-spun)
