Notlar
Compound twill, silk piece that has been cut, on one side, to form a border for the neck of a tunic. Byzantine or Egyptian, ca. AD700-1000. Designs woven in black/dark brown on cream background. There are some faded red thread stitched roughly along one side. The design is of geometric shapes enclosing rosettes and connected by angular foliated stems. The rosettes are similar to some Coptic designs on textiles and footwear (ie: four heart shapes with pointed ends placed together to form a rough square). The piece is stained and torn.
