Notlar Bowl, fritware painted in black under a turquoise blue glaze, Iran, probably 1266-70
Örnek Metin , An inscription fills the interior of the bowl. It is a dating formula in Arabic, which includes the year 666 in the Muslim calendar, equivalent to AD 1266-7. The intention of the painter is not clear -- were they using a dating formula because it was the right length to fill the bowl, or did they wish to record the date when the bowl was made? Either way, the bowl was made in 1266 or in the following years, when the formula would still have been in circulation.
