WARP: white wool; Z2S; 15 threads per inch (54 per dm). WEFT: red wool; Z spun, unplied; 2 shoots after each row of knots; "lazy lines"; 10 knots per inch (41 per dm). PILE: wool; 8 colours: red, yellow, dark green, dark blue, blue, very light blue, black, cream; symmetrical knot tied around 2 threads; 75 knots per sq. inch (1107 per sq. dm). SIDE FINISH: missing. END FINISH: missing DESIGN: field: dark blue ground with parts of four large medallions, each with a blue field. The two on the right-hand side are outlined in red with green and red pendants: those on the left are outlined in a broad red scrolled design bearing a green foliate meander. The large medallion on the right contains a trellis of red stems which bear, top and bottom, the outer pendant motif and large blossoms - predominantly red, yellow and cream. The medallion on the lower left contains a yellow and red Lotto-like arabesque with, to either side, red stems bearing small blossoms and with two independent floral sprigs at the extreme right. The smaller medallion of each pair has evidence of the same design. The dark blue field has a pattern of cream or yellow stems and flowers, and isolated geometric motifs at the top. Main border: red ground with green floral meander with large green blossoms and small leaves in blue and yellow. Inner border: yellow ground with a simple angular meander part in dark blue and part in blue, with red leaves. Partial evidence of this border along the upper edge of the fragment. Outer border: blue ground with black and yellow angular meander with small red flowers.
