| Notlar | The documents explain that the captain corsair Giuseppe Diano plundered a Tunisian galliot and captured 15 “Tunisian Turks”. The captives’ names and ages (ranging from 15 to 55 years old) are listed. The document further explain that three out of such 15 captives had been sold to private individuals, while the remaining 12 had been bought by the Commissioner of the Committee for the Redemption of Captives (Deputazione della redenzione de’ cattivi); inferring that they were to be exchanged for Italian captives held in Tunisia. The Committee for the Redemption of Captives’ mission, in fact, was to negotiate the liberation of the subjects from the Kingdom of Sicily held as slaves. |
