He began the transcription ("qad waqaʻa al-farāgh ʻan taḥrīr hādhihi al-nuskhah al-sharīfah ... badaʼtu bi-kitābatihi [sic]...") in Shaʻbān and completed the transcription (as well as read the copy in the Ayasofya) 11 Shawwāl 1180 [ca. 12 March 1767]. As appears in the ijāzah (certificate of audition) on pp.454-455 dated 1 Muḥarram 1181 [ca. 30 May 1767], the copyist studied the work in the Ayasofya with ʻUmar ibn Muṣṭafá al-Arzanjānī (Ömer b.
