Turkish writings, from the end of the 18th century; the ʿAïn el-hayat is in the hand of a certain Ismaʿil el-Maulevi, who was, in Silistria, secretary of the corps of Janissaries of the Palace, who worked in Kustendil, and dated his work from Thursday 4 (?) Shaʿban of the year 1194 of the hegira (August 5, 1780); the Tohfet el-ʿoushshak is by the hand of Hoseïn ibn Ibrahim el-Khadimi, monk in the convent of Shamilizade Sheïkh Moustafa Efendi el-Nakshbendi el-Kustendili.. Followed (folio 100 verso) by a mystical treatise in mesnevis verse, entitled تحفة العشاق, by a Maulevi dervish, named Khalili, who cites his name twice (folios 119 verso, 120 recto), and the title of Tohfat el-ʿoushshak (folio 120 recto), in the conclusion of this mediocre poem, which its author wrote, to imitate the Mesnevi, after a dream, in which he was encouraged by Ǧelal ed-Din Rumi to undertake this impossible task. It deals with ontology and eschatology, starting with the creation of the primordial Essence, the stages of the world of Spirits, those of the material world, the need to have a good sheikh, the various forms of invocation, to move on to the definition of the Mystic, then to the attributes of the Divinity. This booklet is quite well done, but without any originality; this copy was copied from a manuscript which had been written in the month of Safar 1063 AH (January 1652).
