Notes	Professor-mufti Mehmed Kemaleddin Harputi Efendi (1867-1936), one of the Elazığ ulema, was tried in the Eastern Independence Court due to an investigation carried out in the extraordinary days following the assassination attempt on Atatürk in 1926, while he was the central mufti of Elazığ, and was dismissed from the position of mufti and exiled to Samsun. The reason why Kemaleddin Efendi was tried by this court was that there were statements against some practices of the Republican Government such as Tevhîd-i Tedrîsât, abolition of the caliphate, and the hat reform in the letters he sent to his children and in some documents found in his house. His ghazal in favor of the caliphate, which he included in a letter he sent to his son Abdulhamid, was considered the strongest evidence in the case file that affected the decision. This ghazal with the rhyme "Olalı" is a parallel to a ghazal by Arif Hikmet Bey from Herzegovina. In this article, the process that brought Kemaleddin Efendi to court was discussed, the reasons for writing the ghazal in question were determined based on his statements in the interrogation and defense, by referring to the main sources and the documents in the archives of the Eastern Independence Court, and the poem was briefly explained.
