Notes
Both Ibn Arabi's world and Ibn Khaldun's world are a noisy network of relationships revolving around causes and proportions. Their comments about the nature and structure of this order of relations provide the opportunity to see the contrast between the world picture followed by two different thinkers. In this sense, although Ibn al-Arabi and Ibn Khaldun are children of a single civilization, the way they portray the landscape they watch is different. When looking at any common topic addressed by both thinkers, it will immediately be noticed how the conceptual and terminological world changes the framework of explanation. While the picture followed by Ibn al-Arabi is the world in all its dimensions, Ibn Khaldun's framework is the social umran. This article determines the interpretation route on the subject of "defeating and being defeated" as the basic theme in order to compare the approaches of two different thinkers. While one of them constructs the phenomenon of defeat with terminological choices such as knowledge, power, confirmation, certainty of belief, tanzih, similitude, polytheism, monotheism, unity, kasret, nusret, shake, gedik, the other evaluates it around the concepts of victory, invasion, oppression, domination, courage, savagery, asabiyyah, bedouin-hadari community.
