Tawakkul, one of the basic concepts of religious tradition and culture, is an expression of deep belief and trust in Allah. In trust, there is a powerful and effective Creator at the center of everything. It is accepted that He has control and authority over all beings. For this reason, attention has been drawn in the literature to the close relationship between trust in faith and tawhid. On the other hand, although it is accepted that the sole determinant in the act of trusting is Allah, an attitude that excludes or postpones the individual's efforts is not allowed. There is a structuring in which the individual assumes functional roles and mental and actual processes come into play. Tawakkul provides a privileged space for strong positive emotions that enrich the spiritual world of the individual. Tawakkul, which paves the way for various emotional experiences, functions as a protective factor against negative internal experiences by providing an optimum level of well-being. It also facilitates psycho-social harmony as it involves being content with God's division, discretion and will. In this respect, trust is seen as a healthy defense mechanism. Tawakkul, a multidimensional concept, is one of the factors that most strongly affects the emotional and motivational dynamics of the individual. It also has the potential to make a constructive and constructive contribution to human-human and human-God relations. Therefore, it is very important for every age group to understand the nature of the effect created by tawakkul. When we look at the relevant literature, although there are theoretical and empirical studies on the concept of tawakkul, no study has been found that examines the concept of tawakkul through metaphors. Therefore, it is thought that the study will contribute to the gap in the literature and direct other research on the subject. The main purpose of this research is to reveal adults' perceptions of the concept of trust through metaphors. The study group of the research consists of a total of 237 participants between the ages of 20-70, residing in different cities of Turkey and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Of the participants in the research, 116 (.49%) were women and 121 (51%) were men. In the study, metaphor technique based on phenomenology pattern, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. A semi-structured form was preferred as the information collection method. The form used in the research consists of two parts. The first part includes a 4-item personal information form that aims to reveal the demographic characteristics of the participants. In the second part, the participants were asked: "If you were to compare trust to an image, what would you compare it to?" They were asked to fill in the blanks in the sentence "Tawakkul... (metaphor) is similar to, because... (metaphor reason)...". Data was collected using two different techniques: online (via Google Forms) and face-to-face. MAXQDA 24 program was used to analyze the data obtained and content analysis technique was used. At the end of the research, it was found that 119 different metaphors were produced by 237 participants. Regarding the metaphors produced regarding the concept of tawakkul, three themes were created: "the religious dimension of tawakkul", "the psychological dimension of tawakkul" and "the relational dimension of tawakkul". Two codes were created for the theme of the religious dimension of trust (38%): Divine power and personal responsibility. With the metaphors collected under this code, it is emphasized that Allah is in a guiding, controlling and determining position in all affairs. Moreover, in the process of submission, passive behavior patterns were negated; Reference is made to variables that impose an active role on the individual, such as perseverance, effort and determination. 3 codes were created for the theme of psychological dimension of trust (58.2%). These codes; psychological relief, positive expectation, acceptance and harmony. With these metaphors, it is seen that resignation is beneficial in reducing psycho-social tensions; It has been stated that it increases feelings of hope, hope and optimism and allows healthy reflexes and reactions to unexpected negative developments. In the theme where the relational dimension of trust is examined, a single code named "Divine Love and Fear" (3.8%) was created. In these metaphors, tawakkul is considered as an experience that reflects the balance between divine love and fear. In the research, it was determined that participants in both countries attached a positive value to tawakkul, pointed out the cognitive and psychological background of tawakkul, and emphasized its constructive and dynamic aspects. It has been understood that the way participants in both countries perceive trust is largely similar. However, it was found that Bosnian participants developed unique metaphors for the relational dimension of tawakkul.
