استطاع الشهاب الخفاجي أن يمضي قدما بفن المقامة، وقطع شوطا دالا على أن هذا الفن ما زال يمتاز بالحيوية والجودة في العصر العثماني، فكان امتدادا لمقامات بديع الزمان والحريري والسيوطي وغيرهم، وجاءت على قدر وافر من البلاغة والبراعة عبرت عن الحياة الاجتماعية، وكان الشهاب ثائرا على مفاسد المجتمع ناقدا أدعياء العلم وساخرا من مفتي الدولة ومتصوفيها. al-Shehab al-Khafagi was able to develop the art of al-Maqama and he worked hard to prove that this art was valid and lively during the ottoman era. consequently, it was an extension to other Maqamas by Ba’dei al-Zaman, al-Hariri, al-Sutii, and others. the art of al-Maqama was full of rhetoric and ingenuity that depicts the social life. al-Khafagi was rebellious against society corruption, criticizing knowledge pretenders, and sarcastic of the Mufti’s state and its Sufis.
