Notlar	A commentary on Wasīlat al-ḥisāb (وسيلة الحساب), by Shihāb al-Dīn Abū al-‘Abbās Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Hāʼim al-Maqdisī al-Faraḍī (شهاب الدين أبو العباس أحمد بن محمد بن الهائم المقدسي الفرضي, d. 1412), known as Ibn al-Hā’im (ابن الهائم), which is itself an abstract from its author's own al-Maʻūnah fī ʻilm al-hawāʼī (المعونة في علم الهوائي), a manual of mental arithmetic. The lemmata of the base text are overlined in red to distinguish them from the text of the commentary. The commentary is by Badr al-Dīn Abū ‘Abd Allāh Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad al-Shāfi‘ī al-Miṣrī al-Dimashqī (بدر الدين أبو عبد الله محمد بن محمد بن أحمد الشافعي المصري الدمشقي, d. 1490) known as Sibṭ al-Māridīnī (سبط المارديني), timekeeper (موقّت) of the al-Azhar Mosque at Cairo. The present copy was completed on 1 Rabīʿ II 1070/16 December 1659 by the scribe ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan ibn Zayn al-Dīn al-ʿĀmilī (علي بن محمد بن الحسن بن زين الدين العاملي, see colophon Section at the end of a manuscript text. , f. 93v, lines 15-16, transcribed below). The colophon Section at the end of a manuscript text. states that 'it was completed in the hand of the author' on 8 Rabīʿ I 902 / 14 November 1496 (f. 93v, lines 10-12), however as this is six years after the author's death this statement may be spurious, or refer to a subsequent copy. The colophon Section at the end of a manuscript text. (f. 93v, lines 12-17) and the audition certificate in the margin copied from the source manuscript made by Zayn al-Dīn ibn ʿAlī ibn Aḥmad, great-grandfather of the scribe (صورة خط جدي) mentions the text's transmission to the former during sessions finishing on Saturday, 19 Rajab 960 /1 July 1553. Begins (f. 1v, lines 2-5): قال الشيخ الإمام العالم العلامة المحقق المدقق الفهامة شيخ مشائخ الإسلام والمسلمين محمد بن محمد سبط المارديني الحمد لله مسهل الحساب ومهون الصعاب ورافع الحجاب عن قلوب الأحباب وصلى الله وسلم على سيدنا محمد... Ends (f. 93v, lines 8-9): وهذه كتاب جليل حسن فاق كتب هذه الفن وهذا آخر ما (؟)... الله تعالى به في هذا التعليق لله الحمد والمنة وصلواته على سيدنا محمد وعلى آله وصحبه وسلم Colophon Section at the end of a manuscript text.
