Wasīlat al-ḥisāb
(The Means of Calculation), by Shihāb al-Dīn Abū al-‘Abbās Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Hāʼim al-Maqdisī al-Faraḍī (Shihāb al-Dīn Abu al-Abbas Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn al-Haym al-Maqdisi al-Fardi, d. 1412), known as Ibn al-Hā’im (Ibn al-Hā’im), which is itself an abstract from Its author's own
al-Maʻūnah fī ʻilm al-hawāʼī
(Aid in Pneumatics), a manual of mental arithmetic. The lemmata of the base text are overlined in red to distinguish them from the text of the commentary.
The commentary is by Badr al-Dīn Abū ‘Abd Allāh Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad al-Shāfi‘ī al-Miṣrī al-Dimashqī (Badr al-Din Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Shafi’i al-Misri al-Dimashqi, d. 1490) known as Sibṭ al-Māridīnī (Trib of Al-Mardini), timekeeper (timekeeper) of the Al-Azhar Mosque at Cairo.
The present copy was completed on 1 Rabīʿ II 1070/16 December 1659 by the scribe ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan ibn Zayn al-Dīn al-ʿĀmilī (Ali ibn Muhammad ibn al-Hasan ibn Zayn al-Din al-Amili, see

states that 'it was completed in the hand of the author' on 8 Rabīʿ I 902 / 14 November 1496 (f. 93v, lines 10-12), however as this is six years after the author's death this statement may be spurious, or refer to a subsequent copy.

(f. 93v, lines 12-17) and the audition certificate in the margin copied from the source manuscript made by Zayn al-Dīn ibn ʿAlī ibn Aḥmad, great-grandfather of the scribe (Image of my grandfather’s handwriting) mentions the text’s transmission to the former during finishing sessions on Saturday, 19 Rajab 960 /1 July 1553.

The sheikh, the imam, the scholar, the scholar, the investigator, the verifier, the understanding sheikh, said:
Islam and Muslims Muhammad bin Muhammad, the grandson of al-Mardini. Praise be to God, the facilitator of reckoning
He eases difficulties and lifts the veil from the hearts of loved ones, and may God’s blessings and peace be upon him
Our Master Muhammad...

This is the book of Jalil Hasan, which surpassed the books of this art, and this is the last (?)...

It was completed on the eighth of Rabi’ al-Awwal in the year nine hundred and two in the handwriting of its author, Muhammad bin Muhammad bin Ahmed bin Muhammad bin
Ahmed bin Al-Ghazal, with the diminution of Al-Zai, was originally Damascene and Egyptian by birth, known as Sabt
Al-Mardini, may God Almighty have mercy on him, wrote from a copy in the handwriting of our Sheikh Al-Sayyid Ali Al-Qa’i, may God have mercy on him, and he read and heard it.
On my late grandfather, the divine scholar, known as the mortal martyr, may God sanctify his soul and his sermons
The aforementioned gentleman wrote, “What is this word?” and it was copied from a copy read on the manuscript, bearing his notifications and approval.
He wrote it with his immortal hand on the path of God Almighty, with the least of His servants, Ali ibn al-Khattab, free of mind
Muhammad bin Al-Hassan bin Zain Al-Din Al-Amili, may God treat them with His kindness and generosity, and pardon their affairs through the grace of His presence, His grace.
There are times when he rushes to finish the beginning of the month of Rabi’ al-Thani of the months of the year seventy after the thousand, praising, praying and submitting.
