Notlar An anonymous list of definitions of fifty philosophical terms useful for physicians. The text is defective at the end, and contains only forty-eight definitions. The author states that he has abridged his definitions from the practical section ( al-juz’ al-‘ilmī ) of a work called Tadhkarat al-ḥāḍir wa-zād al-musāfir , which may a variant title for Ibn al-Jazzār’s (d. 980) well-known medical handbook Zād al-musāfir wa-qūt al-ḥāḍir (see f. 55v, lines 4-5, transcribed below; and Ullmann, Medizin im Islam , 1970, pp. 147-48). Begins (f. 55v, lines 2-7): الحمد لله على تواتر الأية وأشكره على تطاهر نعمائه حمدًا تحقق بعظمته وكشر يليق بكبرائه وأما بعد فإني قد اختصرت من الكتاب المعنون بتذكرة الحاضر وزاد المسافر في أصول الصناعة الطبية أعني الجزء العلمي وإنه كتاب صغير المظر كبير المخبر ولقبته بالروضة الطبية ... Ends (ff. 81v, line 13-82r, line 1): ... فأما إذا تغيرت عن قوتها فلا يتم لها هذا بل تكون تختلف عوضًا عما تحلل أو دون ذلك مثلما يعرض للشيوخ والذين سيتولي عليهم [f. 82r] ضعف الأعضاء بسبب سوء المزاج Colophon Section at the end of a manuscript text. Front paper i verso The back of a sheet of paper or leaf, often abbreviated to 'v'. contains an anonymous bookplate with motto ‘NULLIUS IN VERBA’. Folio 4r contains stamp inscribed ‘Soc. Reg. Lond. ex dono Henr. Howard Norfolciensis’.
