Notlar	About: Fine copy of the first part (from Kitāb al-Ṭahārah to Kitāb al-Hibah) of Muẓaffar al-Dīn Aḥmad ibn ʻAlī Ibn al-Sāʻātī's commentary on his own compendium of Ḥanafī law, based on the Mukhtaṣar of al-Qudūrī (d.1037) and the Manẓūmah of al-Nasafī (d.1142). Incomplete, ending abruptly before the conclusion of Kitāb al-Hibah. Contents listing on opening leaf (p.1). \| Shelfmark: Ann Arbor, University of Michigan, Special Collections Research Center, Isl. Ms. 549 Origin: Lacks dated colophon ; paper, etc. would suggest 15th century. Accompanying materials: a. Acquisitions slip from Yahuda -- b. Slip with title (paginated pp.61-62). Former shelfmark: From interior of upper cover and spine label "IL 216a" (likely supplied by Yahuda, see acquisitions slip). Binding: Pasteboards covered in brown and cream mottled paper (sponge painted or faux marbled look) with dark teal cloth over spine and fore edge flap ; Type II binding (with flap) ; board linings in indigo wove paper ; now sewn in white thread, six stations ; patterned stuck-on endbands ; overall in fair condition with minor abrasion, delamination of boards at corners, spine slant (slightly cocked), etc. Support: non-European (likely Arab) laid paper with 8 laid lines per cm. (horizontal) and chain lines (vertical) likely grouped in threes with 8-12 mm. between chains and 42-50 mm. between groups (see p.92, 164, 166, 258, etc.) ; sturdy and quite well-burnished to glossy, somewhat cloudy formation with some inclusions. Decoration: Some section headings rubricated. Script: Naskh ; elegant, small, compact Turkish or 'Syrian' hand ; serifless with curvilinear descenders (some sweeping), only casually pointed with pointing in strokes rather than distinct dots, elongation of horizontal strokes, occasional effect of words descending to baseline, point of final nūn set deep in bowl, kāf mashqūqah preferred (even final kāf). Layout: Written in 29 to 31 lines per page. Collation: 18 IV(144), IV+1 (153), IV (161), V (171), 2 IV(187), i ; chiefly quaternions ; leaf split in the 19th quire (see pp.296-297) and text supplied (in a different hand) on the interior ; catchwords present but usually cut off (i.e. lost to trimming) ; foliation in black ink, Hindu-Arabic numerals ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization (includes insert).
