Ms. 535 Origin: Lacks dated colophon ; paper, etc. would suggest 16th century. Accompanying materials: a. Inventory cataloguing slip in hand of Winifred Smeaton Thomas (pp.1-2) -- b. Acquisitions slip from Yahuda (pp.3-4). Former shelfmark: From interior of upper cover and label on lower cover "IL 178" (likely supplied by Yahuda, see acquisitions slip). Binding: Pasteboards covered in shell marbled paper (mainly in pink and blue, which Jake Benson has identified as being of 19th century Spanish manufacture) with red leather over spine (quarter binding) ; Type III binding (without flap) ; board linings in untinted wove paper ; sewn in white thread, two stations ; overall in fair condition with some abrasion, lifting and losses of paper, almost fully detached at spine, etc. Support: European laid paper with 9 laid lines per cm. (vertical), chain lines spaced 32-34 mm. apart (horizontal), and bull's head watermark (without motif above, see p.10, 94, 95, etc.) ; sturdy and well-burnished to glossy ; some staining and tide lines. Decoration: Keywords and abbreviation symbols rubricated ; textual dividers in the form of red inverted commas. Script: Naskh ; small, compact Turkish or 'Syrian' hand with Persianate features ; fairly vertical and virtually serifless with mainly curvilinear descenders, pointing in strokes rather than distinct dots, point of final nūn set deep within bowl, kāf mashkūlah (mashqūqah) preferred, occasional hāʼ looking like two inverted commas one above the other, and some free assimilation of letters. Layout: Written in 19 lines per page ; frame-ruled. Collation: 6 V(60) ; exclusively quinions ; catchwords present ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization (includes inserts). Explicit: "قال رسول الله عليه الدين النصيحة قالوا لمن يا رسول الله قال لله ولرسوله ولائمة المسلمين وعامتهم وارجو انا [؟] ان يكون هذا المختصر [؟] ... وان اكون من الناصحين للمسلمين مقيمي الدين واسأل الله ان يجعلني من المنتفعين ... واجعلني من الذين لا خوف عليهم ولا هم يحزنون وصلى الله على سيدنا محمد واله وصحبه اجمعين والحمد لله اولا واخرا وهو رب العالمين تم" Incipit: "الحمد لله الذي تفرد في ذاته بالعلو والغني وتسمى في الازل باسمائه الحسنى ... وبعد يقول العبد المعتصم بحبل الله المتين والمتمسك بالعروة الوثقى حب الله ورسله ثم حب الفقراء والمساكين اضعف العباد محمد بن بهاء الدين ... اعلم ان نبينا صلوات الله عليه انما ختمت به النبوة الشريفة لجمعية استعداد وكلية فوائد لانه مظهر الاسم الاعظم الجامع لجميع الاسماء ..." Pir Mehmet Fenârî) reads "اسماء حسني يه بهاء الدين زاده افندينك شرحى در من كتب الفقير الى الله الباري محمود بن پير محمد الفناري", ownership statement in name of Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Ḥasan al-Sāmsūnī (Ahmet b. Mehmet b. Hasen es-Samsunî) reads "من كتب الفقير الى الله الغني احمد بن محمد بن حسن السامسوني عفي عنهم", three effaced statements including one dated 1213 [1798 or 9], ownership statement in name of one Muṣṭafá (مصطفى) and ownership statement in name of ʻAbd al-Razzāq ibn Bakrī al-Sammān (Abdürrezzak b.
