Notlar About: Fine copy of ʻIṣām al-Dīn Ibrāhīm ibn Muḥammad ibn ʻArabshāh al-Isfarāyīnī's (or Isfarāʼīnī) gloss on Jāmī's al-Fawāʼid al-Ḍiyāʼīyah, itself a commentary on the Kāfiyah of Ibn al-Ḥājib, on Arabic syntax. Ends abruptly and appears incomplete. | Shelfmark: Ann Arbor, University of Michigan, Special Collections Research Center, Isl. Ms. 131 Origin: Lacks dated colophon ; hand and paper suggests late 17th to mid 18th century. Accompanying materials: Vast number of inserts tipped in (all paginated) carrying glosses and notes, including one decoratively trimmed (pp.49-50) and several tinted yellow (pp.253-254, etc.). Former shelfmark: British Museum, London "No. 77. Ibn Arab Shah's supercommentary on Kafiyah." Binding: Pasteboards originally faced in black leather now covered by laid paper with dark red leather over spine, fore-edge flap, and edges/turn-ins (now paper faced, leather edged, framed binding) ; Type II binding (with flap) ; board linings in laid paper ; upper and lower covers bear evidence of blind-stamped scalloped mandorla (now covered by paper) ; sewn in cream (or light pink?) thread, two stations ; overall in poor condition with significant abrasion, lifting and losses to paper and leather of covers, delamination of boards, staining, etc. ; flap in fairly good condition. Support: European laid paper with 9-10 laid lines per cm. (vertical), chain lines spaced 26 mm. apart (horizontal), and watermark resembling initials or word (with "A A" or "A M"), quite difficult to make out (see pp.4, 6, 10, 122, 264, 290, 302, etc.), sturdy, cream in color, well-burnished ; inserts on different papers, one with watermark of lion rampant visible (see insert tipped in following p.46) ; some staining. Decoration: Nearly monochrome (black ink) with very little use of red ; section headings set apart in larger, heavier script ; overlining in same black ink ; occasional abbreviation symbols rubricated ; rare overlining in red. Script: Naskh ; bold Turkish hand ; virtually serifless ; many closed counters ; somewhat freely ligatured ; kāf mashkūlah (mashqūqah) preferred ; alif maqsūrá mainly mardūdah, final yāʼ occasionally muḥaqqaqah, but often mardūdah (in the word fī, etc.); lām alif ligature forms a closed loop ; slight effect of words descending to baseline becomes more pronounced toward middle of the codex ; hand changes slightly around p.196-197, similar in size and form but adopting a more rightward slant and more pronounced effect of words descending to basline, showing greater influence of nastaʻlīq ; section headings in larger heavier script. Layout: Written in 19 lines per page ; frame-ruled. Collation: i, V (10), I+1 (13), 9 V(103), IV+1 (112) ; chiefly quinions ; final leaf left blank ; slip pasted to obscure portion of text on p.26 ; lacks proper catchwords, but last word of final line on the verso of each leaf is usually repeated at the beginning of the first line on the following recto ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization (includes inserts and front flyleaf ; skips two pages between pp.5-6). Title supplied by cataloguer. Ms. codex. Bookplate of British Museum, London on interior of upper cover, "British Museum, London. No. 77. Ibn Arab Shah's supercommentary on Kafiyah." ; circular seal impression with figure of goat/gazelle in purple ink as well as inscription "383" in Western numerals on front flyleaf (p.1) ; on paper (blue-tinted) pasted on front flyleaf (p.1), a detailed waqf statement in the name of al-Sayyid ʻAbd Allāh Adīb (Abdullah Edip), known as Jannatʹzādah (Cennet-zade), qāḍī of Erzurum, accompanied by his seal, reads: "وقفت وقفا صحيحا شرعيا على ان لا يخرج من بيت الكتب الملتصق بداري الا لعلماء سكنوا بارضروم بكفيل مرعى اورهن قوي وانا الفقير اليه عز شانه السيد عبد الله اديب الشهير بجنت زاده القاضي بمدينة ارضروم في سنة اثنى وستين ومائتين والف" ; extensive marginal and interlinear glosses ; occasional corrections.
